When I started this journey into music, I never knew it would take me where I am today. I started in a cover band and soon tried to write music for record companies. It wasn't until a producer asked me to send him instrumentals, which I did and soon I was signed by Carefree Records. What did that mean? Not a lot, but it did get my foot into a larger world. Soon my music was heard on public radio stations around the country. It grew when "Shades of Classic" in Canada added me to their playlist. One of the craziest experiences was when I signed with a company that would put my music in business. Most people knew this as "elevator music" but to me, I was getting heard around the world. Then in Portugal, a radio station also ran a magazine that aired my music. Send Angels CD appeared on NPR's "Just Plain Music" show which opened up more radio stations that would start playing my music.
This was the days of compact disks and airplay.
I was exploring my musical boundaries, and by the 4th CD, I felt I had found my sound. Then, the music industry changed. There were no more CDs; everything was a download. Some producers wanted to add their voices to the music. So, I started to explore deeper into the sound. Downloads were growing great, but not as good as selling CDs however the industry had changed. Just when I thought everything was going great, it changed again. This time it wasn't downloads; it was all streaming. In the beginning, I was seeing more streaming all across the world. I started to not rely on radio stations because most people were getting their music on Spotify or iTunes. The changes to me are quite fascinating. We went from selling CDs to downloads in 25 years. I am so grateful I invested in digital recording back in 1995 which helped me shape the sounds today. I wanted the cleanest sound I could record. I wanted every instrument to be heard. In my area, I was the first digital recording studio. It was amazing how you can do anything with sound. I loved that I could use different guitars to get different feelings in my music. The whole production has been a learning and inspiring task throughout the years. Music has come a long way, and I feel my journey is like none other. Thank you for listening.
